I wish my sweet KOWHAI grow healthily, bloom beautifully, so that everyone enjoy watching. PLEASE! Looking after her!! I'm really happy to join such a great program.

KOWHAI

Unfortunately, the local nursery has run out of totara for this season. So we are now planting kowhai.

Kowhai is the Maori word for yellow. Kowhai is a tall elegant tree with large, drooping yellow flowers in spring and may attain a height of about 5 metres.

TOTARA

TT001 to TT006 are all TOTARA!

I chose totara for its longevity-possible 1,000 years. A tree may reach its full height of 30 metres in about 100 years. A 12 year old tree at a local park is only 2 metres high! Since it grows so big and for so long it will make a great carbon sink.

It is also a hardy tree and can even survive stock grazing becasue they don'y like the prickly leaves.

A Maori waka (canoe) for 100 warriors could have been carved out of a single tree. For more detailed information refer to Trees for Survival:children growig trees for our future.
